The Set Up
Well we found out that beside a bike getting stolen, we have also had a few packages stolen. Apparently UPS and FedEx just leave packages on doorsteps when you aren't home and down here in the deep south that means if there is a package at a door step someone else can take it. I try to joke about it, but I feel so violated. I feel so unsafe. I keep telling Allen that maybe we should move, but he reminds me that it will probably be the same anywhere we move... at least anywhere that has the same rent that we pay. So Allen thinks we should set the thief up. We should put a package out on our door step... a package that has a tracking device... and then install some cameras out side so we can have a video of the theft. What do you think... is it a good idea? I just don't understand why people steal. I think I am more upset about the packages then I am about the bike. When you move to a new place and you are all alone, a package from an old friend just makes you feel loved. Now I don't know what was in them, I don't get that feeling, and I wonder if I am really safe.

I hate getting things stolen too (see my post on getting our double stroller stolen while at a show at Sea World)--it's so frustrating and so pointless.
However, I am a big city girl who has spent my whole life with my eyes open about things like that. I never left my bike out in our yard or unlocked at the neighborhood pool, I never hang out at home with the doors unlocked (or leave the house without locking up), it bites, but you just have to be as smart as you possibly can. You can call UPS and FedEx and tell them not to leave packages on the doorstep, you may end up having to go to their shipping facility to pick something up, but hey, at least you'll have it. And it doesn't mean you're not safe--the way to be safe is to make an effort to get to know your neighbors, apt managers, anyone around you who can help keep an eye out. If you do that and STILL don't feel safe, maybe then look at moving.
I say forget the set up--what are you going to do? Chase them down--what if they turn out to be high or armed or something crazy? It may even be illegal for you. Anyway. I don't comment often, but I still read your blog! It's amazing how spread out all the families we lived near in Wymount have ended up. Good luck w/the little one on the way.
I liked your idea of setting the thief up, but then read the previous comment, and realized that Amber is probably right----you might get into even more danger with something like that :( They leave packages on our doorstep here in MS too, and as far as I know, one of us has been home for all of them, except for one--and that one was home waiting for us onthe doorstep when we got here--I hope we won't have to worry about a problem like yours!
I saw that you have a hypnobirthing link on your blog, and wanted to let you know that that's what Dustin and I did when we were preparing for Cameron to come--and WE DID IT! We birthed Cameron naturally, without medications. It was such an amazing experience. I'd love to read yours when you get there :)
growing up in LA has made me super super paranoid about stuff like that. Its a tough life but sadly one I have had to live, yes even in provo. And I am all for setting up the thief, but you may not like the results, it may make you feel worse about where you live if its a neighbor. Sorry to put that thought in your head, but most thefts like that are thefts of opportunity, not malice. Love you guys!

Cameo. This is your brother Peter. If you haven't called the police yet, you need to. This needs to be reported (especially if more stuff happens)
Peter,
When did you take up sewing?
